On Monday 14 July, Ireland joined the rest of the developed countries of the world and finally launched its long awaited postcode system – Eircode.
The system has generated a unique seven–digit code for every house and business in the country and will end confusion for the 35% of addresses that are shared with at least one other property. While addresses in Ireland will receive their Eircode in the post from today, you can look up the corresponding Eircode for any address here.
When using the Eircode you will simply add it to the end of the existing address as we do here in Britain, but Eircode’s will remain optional for the moment so many people may continue as before.
