Louis Brennan, the Irish inventor, will be remembered this month in two special events.
On Tuesday 11 March, An Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD will be unveiling a headstone at Brennan’s grave in St Mary’s Cemetery, Harrow Road, London, accompanied by the Mayor of Brennan’s home town of Castlebar, County Mayo, Cllr Noreen Heston. The unveiling takes place at 11.30am, and will be followed by a reception at Flannery’s Bar, Wembley High Road from 2pm. For more details, e–mail brianhoban78@eircom.net
Brennan, who among other things invented the gyroscopic monorail and the dirigible torpedo, will also be celebrated in an exhibition at Gillingham Library, running throughout March. Brennan spent time in Gillingham after returning from Australia and the town hold his archives, from which the exhibition is drawn. A free talk on Thursday 27 March at 7.30pm, will give visitors a greater insight into the extraordinary inventor’s life and work.
