I’m a Junior Doctor, who re-trained in the Britain having moved from Ireland 10 years ago, when I was working as a chartered accountant.
The recent crisis has highlighted to me how many Irish people are working in the NHS and how important community is at this time. Despite my best efforts I’ve not yet been able to find any association for Irish Doctors, unlike the many that exist for different professions including Accountants, Lawyers etc.
I thought therefore it might be an opportunity to come together, celebrate our achievements and start a network of colleagues, starting with those of us in the London area. I’ve also mentioned this to the Embassy of Ireland, who strongly support any such initiative and hopes to help us bring something like this together
For now, I am looking for people who might be interested in getting involved with this project, gathering a list of colleagues across the city and planning for an initial gathering (hopefully) early next year. After that, perhaps meeting once a quarter, for a mix of talks and connecting those at different stages in their career and living in London, I'm open to ideas of what might be helpful.
Aims of the group
To bring together “Irish” Doctors across London to network, socialise and identify new opportunities. It has a number of specific aims:
1) To connect Irish colleagues given our shared culture and heritage
2) Provide opportunities for learning via education/personal developmental events
3) Develop a platform for socialising, especially for those new to London
4) Promote Irish business within the healthcare setting where possible
