Purpose of job: To strengthen and develop Irish in Britain’s (IiB) health and wellbeing activities across our membership, ensuring that health inequalities faced by the Irish community are addressed at both national and local levels.
Develop and implement new and existing health campaigns and initiatives focused on addressing key health issues within the Irish community, ensuring cultural relevance and community engagement. Support and collaborate with member organisations across Britain to strengthen their capacity to deliver health and wellbeing initiatives.
Build and maintain strategic partnerships with health sectors, local authorities, charities and key stakeholders to ensure Irish inclusion in health consultations and policies and plan and facilitate national webinars, workshops and community health events in collaboration with member organisations, NHS partners, charities and community organisations.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: Accountabilities also include a responsibility on behalf of the job holder to undertake any other duties that are relevant to the job as requested by the line manager.
· Support and collaborate with member organisations across Britain to strengthen their capacity to deliver health and wellbeing initiatives.
· Develop and implement health campaigns and projects focused on addressing key health issues within the Irish community, ensuring cultural relevance and community engagement.
· Spearhead the 'Green Hearts' healthy heart campaign, devising resources and promoting member training on hypertension, CPR and defibrillator use.
· Lead the 'Cancer Comhrá' campaign to improve cancer awareness and screening.
· Support the Healthy Ageing Project along with the Healthy Ageing Coordinators in alignment with the agreed bid submitted to The National Lottery.
· Build and maintain strategic partnerships with health sectors, local authorities, charities and key stakeholders to ensure Irish inclusion in health policies and expand support networks.
· Develop mechanisms to consult with and communicate community perspectives to ensure IiB’s health and wellbeing work is community driven.
· Research and develop culturally appropriate health and wellbeing resources for distribution to members and the wider community, while ensuring the health and wellbeing section of the IiB website is kept up to date.
· Provide expert advice and guidance on health and wellbeing issues to both member organisations and internal colleagues, ensuring that the health and wellbeing of the Irish community is prioritised.
· Plan and facilitate national webinars, workshops and community health events in collaboration with member organisations, NHS partners, charities and community organisations.
· Attend relevant conferences, meetings and events to represent IiB, enhance partnerships and stay informed on sector developments. · Generate evaluation and progress reports for external funders and stakeholders.
· Prepare press releases, articles and social content to highlight community concerns, showcase best practices and celebrate the achievements of member organisations.
· Support the organisation of external stakeholder events, including networking opportunities and forums to facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing.
MANAGEMENT AND REPORTING · Provide written reports including statistical and financial information to support the CEO and board in decision making and delivery of our service level agreement
· Ensure that all activity with members is accurately recorded in a timely manner as required by IiB’s internal monitoring and evaluation system, reporting to CEO as required
· Work with Communications Officer to ensure IiB website is regularly populated and updated with emerging funding opportunities, policy, legal, governance, human resources and research information relevant to members. · Operate within financial procedures and within agreed budgets for IiB
LEARNING &PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT IiB has a positive commitment to the training and development of employees in all areas of its activities. Similarly, employees are expected to adopt a positive attitude to any training provided and also to their own personal development. Training needs will be assessed within line management meetings and training agreed within your development plan.
You will also be required to:
• Attend one to one meetings with the CEO Monthly
• Engage in and appraisal in accordance with IiB policy
• Access training, conferences and seminars as agreed by your line manager
• Advise CEO of your own training and development needs

EMPLOYEE SPECIFICATION

PERSON SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR HEALTH OFFICER
KNOWLEDGE OF:
· Specific health concerns within the Irish community
· Informing and supporting member organisations to deliver health and wellbeing activities or campaigns
relevant to their local communities and supported by local bodies
· Working with a wide range of organisations from small community organisations to large welfare organisations
· Clear understanding of current developments in health and wellbeing, public health policy, especially in
relation to health inequalities in the Irish community
· Develop systems to consult with and communicate the opinions of Irish community/ organisations to ensure
IiB’ s health and wellbeing agenda is driven by community need
· Liaise with IiB Policy lead to ensure that national, statutory and non-governmental bodies are aware of the
health and wellbeing challenges of the Irish community, to ensure Irish inclusion in strategies and campaigns
to address health inequalities.
· Stay up to date with latest evidence and monitor external developments in public health, health and social
care policy to identify opportunities to support Irish in Britain’s heath campaigning and influencing work
· Build external relationships with health and social care sectors, research bodies, policy makers, and other
key stakeholders, to influence policy and practice to benefit health and wellbeing of the Irish community in
Britain.
· Prepare briefings, factsheets, digital content and reports to ensure Irish organisations are equipped to make
local representations and engage in local activities
· Represent IiB in coalitions, strategic groups and partnerships relevant to Irish health
· Develop systems to consult with and communicate the opinions of Irish community/ organisations to ensure
IiB’ s health and wellbeing agenda is driven by community need
· Respond to health and wellbeing, welfare, social care consultation opportunities, engaging the Irish
community, member organisations, interest groups or individuals as appropriate
· Create mechanisms to showcase good practice and innovation through networking opportunities, forums
and events
· Provide support for the organisation of external stakeholder events
· Provide advice, information and evidence about health and wellbeing issues so that colleagues are informed
and able to reinforce policy messages and activities in external meetings.
