About

I have been aware of and benefited from – initially through my Irish parents who came to live in the UK in the 1940s– the work of Irish in Britain for many years.

I am also aware, including from personal experience, of the particular challenges that Irish people (including those who are second generation) face and the role that Irish in Britain has played in enabling Irish people to meet those challenges.

I had been looking for another voluntary role outside work for some time but hadn’t found anything that I was interested in sufficiently. When I saw that IiB were looking for trustees I was really excited at the opportunity to be a part of the organisation.

I have experience in operating at board level currently – I am on the management committee of the chambers from where I practice as a barrister – and in the past I have been on a variety of management committees and/or boards ranging from Law Centres to local Theatre Groups.

I have experience in personnel matters (I am currently responsible for staffing and I practice in employment law).

I advise organisations ranging from private companies to political parties and national campaigning organisations, on a regular basis, on strategic organisational matters, including those relating to policy and legislation, both of which areas are relevant to the work of the Irish in Britain – as is discrimination, an area in which I have considerable expertise.

I look forward to contributing my skills to what is a vital organisation for the Irish community.
