Conal is a former expert advisor to the British Government who has also spent many years in NHS and corporate Life Sciences sector. He initially moved to the UK to take up a position in the Department of Health, where he stayed for almost four years. He then worked for two NHS bodies before moving over to the private sector where he worked in public policy and NHS relations. Most recently Conal has been advising on the impact of Brexit on healthcare but retains a keen interest in the particular impact it is having on the Irish community in Britain.
Prior to moving to the UK Conal lived and worked in the United States for a decade. Starting out in a political role in Washington, DC, he later moved to the University of Virginia where he was involved in encouraging the use cutting edge robotics technology in healthcare settings.
Conal’s commitment to the role of a Trustee in Irish in Britain stems in large measure from his experience, positive and negative, of being an Irish immigrant in two different countries. From operating in the corridors of power in Whitehall and Washington, to experiencing some of the darker side of racial prejudice, Conal wants to support the Irish community at this critical moment when Brexit is unsettling so many perceived certainties.
Conal was born and raised in Dublin and attended Trinity College, undergraduate and Masters. He is married with a son.
