Our hope is that Ceol Club can easily fit into existing weekly lunch clubs, music clubs, or other regular activities.

The idea is to play around four songs (using YouTube on a phone or computer with sound). After listening, it is best to have a few questions about the song or memories for the group, who can then share the memories of the songs.

These questions are not to be rushed, we want people to really take a trip down memory lane and talk about it amongst their peers. This encourages the telling of wonderful stories and offers an opportunity to experience Irish community oral history firsthand!

Below is a suggested song list, with the links to YouTube to hear the song. Ceol Club is a refreshing alternative to a book club, especially for those who may find reading more challenging. It’s about celebrating our shared heritage through music, storytelling, and conversation.

As part of the Healthy Ageing Project, we made a commitment to focus on the strengths and expertise of our member groups, fostering engagement with Ireland’s unique music, dance, sport, language, and culture. Ceol Club embodies this mission and is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Ireland’s vibrant musical tradition.
