Our voice of Tipperary is Lorraine Maher, originally from Carrick–on–Suir nestled in the south–east corner of the ‘premier county’.
Lorraine is the founder and director of IAmIrish, a campaign that envisages an equitable and inclusive Irish society, where Irish people of mixed ethnicity and mixed heritage are fully represented in all aspects of the global Irish experience.
In her video, Lorraine covers some of her Tipperary highlights: Slievenamon, the Rock of Cashel, the fields outside Ormond Castle, and Semple Stadium in Thurles. That’s not to forget castles at Cahir and Nenagh, and the beautiful Glen of Aherlow. Two great cyclists have put Carrick on the map in recent years – Sam Bennett and Sean Kelly, and Lorraine is very proud of them!
She talks about how St Patrick, a foreigner in a strange land, was welcomed in Ireland – something we should remember today.
